[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

We’re up to the penultimate episode of Hell on Wheels as everything comes down to the pounding of the Golden Spike that unites both railroad projects near Ogden. I had the good fortune to be on set last fall for this episode, and you can read about that visit here.

“Railroad Men” buttons up the story for many of our characters, but there’s still one more episode to follow next week that focuses on what remains for Bohannon. In this hour, we focus on everyone else–the men who poured their souls into the labor, the women who were integral to the towns and their stories, and the men who wrote the checks for their endeavors.

It’s emotionally satisfying to see it all come to fruition and realize exactly what it cost those involved. There are of course some last-minute, unexpected snags, which bring a delightfully snarky reunion of Bohannon and his former Cheyenne crew. I’m so glad Hell on Wheels got to finish its story on its own terms.

One programming note: AMC will marathon all of season 5, beginning with last summer’s episodes, beginning next Saturday at 5:15 am/4:15 c.

Check back Saturday night for more of my behind the scenes pics from this episode. Here are a couple of sneak peeks of “Railroad Men.”
