[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

Good golly, there’s a lot of gore in this week’s Penny Dreadful, but also a lot of heart, in a non-gory way, thankfully, as well as the beginning of a mystery of sorts.

First the sweet (ish). John has started to flash back on who he was before he was reanimated, so he makes his way to London to see if there’s anything left of his old life that he can pick back up.

Vanessa continues her therapy and proves her stories to Dr. Seward are true, whether she believes them or not. After a date with Dr. Sweet goes sideways, she asks Seward to help her get to the bottom of certain memories, which hold a major surprise, just not the one she’s expecting.

As for the gore, well that belongs to our reigning couple of debauchery, Dorian and Lily, who decide to show and tell their new pet how they roll when people cross them, and it involves A LOT of blood, and a lot of sex.

There’s also a touch of gore in America as Rusk and his new U.S. Marshal companion find the pieces of folks left in the cantina after last week’s wolf/witch rager. A few steps ahead of them, Ethan begrudgingly abides party crasher Hecate while Malcolm and Kaetenay track them. Look for Malcolm to hilariously threaten a would-be goon on a train who seriously misjudges him.
