Moment of (Almost) Goodness: Juliette Declares Her Feelings, Nashville “Tomorrow Never Comes”

If I’m totally honest, there are quite a few things that disappointed me in tonight’s fall finale. Well, there are quite a few elements of the show that have let me down this season. But the one person I can count on no matter what – whether it be for drama, or a touching moment of vulnerability – is Juliette Barnes. And in “Tomorrow Never Comes” she delivers in a very big way.

It took a lot for me to stop hating Avery. I hated the way he treated Scarlett last season and I have to admit I’m not really onboard with their current relationship. Avery’s learned a lot since he broke Scarlett’s heart though and the most interesting part of his journey for me has been his budding relationship with Juliette. I love that they’re friends. As I’ve said a few times before, Juliette needs someone like Avery (and/or Deacon) in her life. She needs someone who will call her on her sh*t, but when also been there when she needs them. I love that Juliette and Avery are writing music together. They’re great on stage together and when it looked like her fans were about to run Juliette off the stage, it was Avery who helped her work through it.

And it was easy to tell that Avery was beginning to feel something a little more than friendly towards Juliette. I feel like this has been percolating for a bit (and I love me a slow build), but tonight it was so hard for Avery to keep it off his face. So when Juliette shows up at Avery’s door ready to declare her feelings, I got pretty excited.

Juliette: “The last few months have been really crazy and I know that I’ve made a lot of mistakes. But when Charlie told me that he loved me, I realized that all I want is to be a person who gets to say ‘I love you’ and really mean it so-“

But the second she sees Scarlett she stops herself. I feel like our little Juliette is really growing up. Even though she feels it and wants to say it, she refuses to finish her declaration because of Scarlett. In the past, I think Juliette wouldn’t have stopped herself. Well, in the past she just would’ve stolen Avery away from Scarlett without a moment’s hesitation. But I don’t think Avery told Juliette he was back with Scarlett so Juliette had no idea he was off the market.

What can we expect from these two in the new year? I think Avery’s about to be single again. Scarlett can only take so much lying from everyone around her. I feel like there might be some backsliding from Juliette because she dared to make herself that vulnerable to someone. But I think these two will eventually be together and I’m really, really looking forward to that.

What do you think? Do you want to see Juliette and Avery get together?

Not until Scarlett’s on more solid footing. I worry the writers are going to be lazy and send her down the same spiral as Deacon from Too. Much. And I kind of wanted Avery not to screw it up. I was just starting to trust him but I knew full well Juliette was going to have trouble with friendship vs. boyfriend.
