[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

OK, y’all. Buckle up, because this week’s Haven is a deeply oddball episode. And I don’t mean that in bad way at all. It’s just batsh-t crazytown in tone and camera work and general storyline and confined entirely to the police station. It moves the plot forward toward the finale, sure, but it also sort of gleefully WTFs all over the place to get us there. It’s not technically a funny episode, but there are a handful of “Well, sure, let’s try X or Y. We’re almost done!”

First up, there’s a delightful wink-nudge to the often-heard but never-seen Laverne that gets amped way up. Then we spend much of the episode watching the action unfold through a closed-camera feed as Audrey negotiates with a laptop. There’s also a throwback mention to season three’s equally bonkers “Real Estate.” Nathan and Audrey get a visit from a familiar face, this time boding well instead of ill, and at long last, William Shatner arrives on the scene with a pretty significant opening line.

The stakes are still dire, and there is a body count again. The gist of the episode is that while everyone is reeling from Dave’s sacrifice (RIP), the Guard is locking down the precinct to keep Audrey safe and she’s desperately trying to fire up the controller. Strangely, Dwight is physically nowhere in the episode, but he is mentioned.

Look for a lovely, quiet scene between Duke and Nathan, who take a moment in the calm before the storm to clear the air about their history. You might find it unintentionally entertaining because Lucas Bryant and Eric Balfour are both extra husky-voiced like they were fighting the same cold. That’s not at all where that scene is trying to go, but if you’re so inclined, enjoy! Balfour also gets his mwa-ha-ha on later in the hour.
