[Warning: General spoilers in images, article, and videos].

Prepare to have your mind blown. No, really. Because we’re about to dive deep into parallel timelines, multiple versions of people, past-meets-present-meets-future, and things that we saw happen that haven’t happened yet, and may never happen. You might need a spreadsheet. It’s deliciously complex and so, so good.

We pick right back up from the closing minutes of season two (six months ago!) with Kiera locked in a glass box alongside Liber8 and Jason and it’s apparent that something has gone terribly wrong. She has to buddy up with an unlikely ally to get out of the prison, and it’s a pretty badass pairing. Even better, Kiera repays the debt in an alternate timeline.

We follow Alec and find out where/when he landed in his quest to prevent Emily’s death–and that there are consequences across multiple timelines because of his decision. It’s a Kiera- and Alec-heavy episode because it has to be, but don’t fret. The gang’s all here by the second episode.

The premiere also sets up a new insight into the Freelancers–the time-travelers we didn’t have much of a bead on last season. They’re now the key to Kiera getting back home and she has to shift her alliances to make sure that happens. They also give her a gateway to chase Alec that essentially undoes the season finale so that it never happened, or hasn’t happened yet, and might not happen. Like I said–spreadsheet.

It’s a busy, busy hour as we set the stage of season three, and we almost need it to be two hours. I really liked having a darker, wounded Alec and a pissed-off Kiera who’s just over it and bitterly disappointed in one of the Alecs she has to deal with. I also love that  the timeline shift unkills Curtis and we find out his role in Liber8 wasn’t so straightforward.

To catch you up, Syfy is marathoning season two all day Friday beginning at 8 am/7c, and they’ve put together a “Continuum 101 slide show. Our Canadian friends at Showcase have also created a handy historical timeline.

Season three of Continuum kicks off at 10/9c on Friday. Here are a couple of sneak peeks of “Minute By Minute.”
