“The Nightcomers” is a flashback episode with the origin story on how Vanessa honed her gift, and first ended up on the radar of Evelyn, who punches another hole in her Frequent Batsh-t Card.
Here’s what to expect: Vanessa meets The Cut-Wife (LuPone), who teaches her how to harness her powers. Isolated at her lonely cottage on the moors, the Cut-Wife quickly realizes the extent of Vanessa’s powers and warns her of the danger that lies ahead and the evil that pursues her.
And here’s a sneak peek. It’s not an easy watch to see Vanessa come to terms with her fate, as it were, but it’s very well done. Penny Dreadful airs at 10/9c Sunday on Showtime. Here’s a sneak peek.
