[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]
We’ve arrived at our finale of Secrets and Lies, and after last week’s morning after debacle, where Ben slept with Jess in a fit of stupidity and awoke to a scary version of her that was ready to make another baby, all signs point toward Jess killing her son. But I seriously doubt it’s that easy. The promo people want us to believe it was a woman, which could be Jess, or Christy, or even one of the girls. Who knows. What we do know is that Abby ran away and it looks (again “looks”) like Jess might have her.
I have to call bullsh-t that Jess’s history of mental illness and loss of a previous child wouldn’t have been paraded out by Cornell, but maybe that’s because she was so invested in proving Ben did it. We’ll see where we go tonight. They’ve got 44-ish minutes to wind it down. I’m hoping we do actually finish. As I said last month, there were rumblings that the series could return next year, but focused on Cornell, so let’s hope that means this case is wrapped up. ABC will announce its schedule in New York next week so maybe we’ll find out then.
Here’s what to expect: Certain that he is not responsible for Tom’s death, Ben tries to finally relax and enjoy the Christmas that he missed with his family — until a shocking discovery changes his plans. Meanwhile, with the evidence having been re-tested, Cornell puts all the pieces together and prepares to make an arrest. But in the stunning conclusion, Ben makes a decision that will change his family’s life forever. The nightmare is only just starting.
