It’s that time again. I’m going to get a little fawny over one of my faves. The abso fabulous John Pyper-Ferguson has been around for a LONG time, y’all, but recently he’s EVERYWHERE, and tonight you can catch him twice–in very different roles on two very different shows.

He came onto my radar way back there in 1993 as the hilariously unhinged gunslinger “Pistol” Pete Hutter in The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. If you have never seen this show, get on that. If you only know Bruce Campbell for Burn Notice, seriously, get on that. Since then, Pyper-Ferguson has bounced around Canadian and American TV doing guest spots all over the place. He was a regular on the first season of Brothers & Sisters and then resumed doing one-offs on shows like Fringe, Hellcats. and Castle, as well as an arc on Syfy’s BSG spinoff, Caprica.

In the last year, he’s been on The Firm, Grimm, and Longmire, and he did an arc as the seemingly immortal Stanton Parish in the second season of Syfy’s Alphas (now on DVD). Earlier this year, on Once Upon A Time, he was the doomed dad whose son sparked Regina”s interest pre-Henry in “Welcome to Storybrooke” and he had a recurring role on NBC’s Deception.

Last week, he popped up on USA’s Burn Notice to interrogate Michael, and he’s back again in tonight’s episode. He’s also over on ABC tonight at the same time (God bless the DVR) in Motive, where he’s the killer in a case that’s not as cut and dry as it might seem. (It’s the second time he’s worked with Kristin Lehman–they did an Outer Limits episode together several years ago).

I’m so glad to see him so busy. He’s in the class of actors who I will happily sit down and watch something for even if it’s not my cup of tea. And I will always and forever be partial to him as Pistol Pete. He was so utterly goofy and gullible and his trademark, “Don’t touch my piece,” still gets quoted in my house.

Here are sneak peeks of Motive and Burn Notice, which air opposite each other on ABC and USA starting at 9/8c:
