[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]
Just two episodes left this season, SurrealEstaters, and Thursday’s episode, “Grave Matters,” written by George R. Olson and directed by TW Peacocke, gives Roman/Ireland frenemy Rita (Alison Brooks) a chance to walk in their shoes when she brings them in for a quick assist on a gig that’s far from the easy money it first seems to be.

When Rita tells Luke to drop everything (which at the time is a very important personal conversation) and meet her, it’s so she can dangle a very expensive carrot. She’s picked up a listing for an estate but there’s a significant hiccup — the late owner, Magnus (Wayne Best), has left a timed, deathtrap-and-riddle-laden scavenger hunt to be completed so they can get the password to his computer and read the will.

Rita’s dispatched to the house and the team, sans Luke, head to the cemetery to look for clues around the owner’s headstone. Lomax, Susan, and Augie are up for the Scooby-Doo adventure until the clues get dicier and dicier. And Rita has her own predicament when she finds the house to be not exactly vacated. Her initial panic instead turns into an ethereal heart to heart, and both their hearts might have actually grown two sizes by the end of it.

When Rita throws out an idea for a potential buyer, Luke shuts her down with good reason. Then he has his own come to Jesus about his life when he chats with a widow in the cemetery and she talks about love and timing and loss. It’s a conversation that Susan’s also ready to have a variation of.

It’s a fun episode with a gotcha final scene that sets up next week’s season finale. It’s gone so fast, and I seriously hope a Season 4 is in the cards for the crew.
