The episode goes big in an hour that threatens the hospital they’ve all been calling home, and we find out exactly how busy and creative Axel was with the booby trapping, and other endeavors, while he and Doc were on their own. We also see that he’s not wholly impervious to the impending onslaught heading their way as he finally cracks a bit under the weight of his Semper Fi persona.

As Vanessa recuperates too slowly from her feral attack, Doc turns to an unlikely assistant when she realizes an impromptu surgery is required to save her life.

While that’s going on, Dmitri and Julius take turns marking territory in the street in an aggressive play for Vanessa and Mohamad carefully navigates his way back to the crew from boonie land and finds a familiar face on the way.

It’s a turning point episode that spins the action outward for the back half of the season.

Van Helsing airs at 10/9c Fridays on Syfy. Here’s a sneak peek of “For Her.” One programming note: the Friday reruns have been dropped and the second airing is now overnight Tuesday into Wednesday at 3 am/2c. You can also catch the episodes online at syfy.com.
