Four episodes into its third season, SurrealEstate has calmed any fears that losing Augie and Zooey from the employee roster at the agency meant losing them from the show. Huzzah! This week, Zooey (Savannah Basley) gets a showcase episode of her very own when her current job needs an assist from her former employer.

Tasked with settling the estate of an elderly matriarch, Zooey must babysit her three adult children as they divide and conquer her belongings. In any other show, that would mean ensuring civility among the siblings. Here, it means ensuring that there isn’t a homicide. As we and Zooey learn, each of the siblings has a tendency to take their own advice — literally — even when it plants really dangerous seeds of deception.

As soon as Zooey realizes it’s not garden variety animosity but something else, she calls Luke. While he does step up for her, he’s falling short in other areas because he’s so besotted by the notion of what lies on the other side of selling Tyler’s megahouse. Meanwhile, Augie is feeling very much the stepchild who’s fallen out of favor.

Susan and Lomax work on their house, and Susan tries to work on what she wants for herself even as she’s unaware that new hire Tag might be a little sweet on her after helping save her life and all last week. It’s a wild episode rooted in family drama — biological and familial, and it’s a super fun outing for Zooey, who fives years on from her tiptoe-maybe-realtoring finds her past and present being put to very good, if unexpected, use. Paolo Barzman continues his directing block, and the episode was written by Hannah Cheesman, who played Death in last week’s episode.
