[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

After last week’s cluster of brain trust moves, this week’s Fargo finds various parties playing dangerous and dirty with each other, or at least hinting really strongly that they can. None of that necessarily moves the narrative further, but it does give us a little more perspective on who we’re dealing with.

Emmit and Sy try to extricate themselves from the mystery that is V. M. Varga and instead complicate things further when they implicate their lawyer, who doesn’t know enough in 2010 about not clicking on strange URLs. We also meet Varga’s equally odd and menacing henchmen.

Ray is still freaking out about his participation in two murders while Nikki would prefer to shift the focus to clearing his Chi, the better to get them on the right track for a bridge tournament sponsor. That leads them back to Emmit, and to Nikki making an exceptionally gross spur-of-the-moment decision that further escalates things between the siblings.

Over in Eden Prairie, Gloria sorts through her stepfather’s lock box of books and wonders who he really was as she investigates his murder and plans his funeral. She also meets her new boss, which doesn’t go at all well.

Fargo airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on FX. Here are a few sneak peeks.
