[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]
Three episodes into the fourth season of From, and our unease continues as Sophia spins her duplicitous web, brewing something nefarious while also soliciting sympathy as the town gathers to say goodbye to her “dad” and Jim. In “Merrily We Roll Along,” written by John Griffin & Kristen Layden and directed by Alexandra La Roche, the Fromville residents take a divide and conquer approach to figuring out what exactly “knowledge comes at cost” means, and more importantly, how to get ahead of that looming whatever.
Fatima tries to settle in back at Colony House and has an unlikely heart to heart with Elgin, while Ellis takes her on an outing to help her channel her emotions and regain some agency in the aftermath of her abduction.
Julie enlists Randall once again as she keeps working on finding a way back to her dad, returning to where everything began when they arrived in town. Tabitha seeks her own path, and Henry tags along, finally coming face to face with the OG bottle tree that tormented his wife.
Ethan tries to honor Jim’s last request of him and seeks help from Victor. They pick up Jade, who’s also looking for a way to unlock his brain, but they instead unlock another horrific core memory for Victor that sends him reeling,
Boyd offers Acosta an olive branch and an alternative path in the aftermath of her meltdown. When he seeks his own personal counsel, it yields frightening results, rattling his already fragile psyche.
With everyone scattered around trying to fix things in their own way, From continues to mine its most excellent ensemble cast to great effect, craftily pairing up its characters in new combinations as they all work together, if not to get out, to at least survive. I’m still so pleased they’re going to get to write their own ending, and that we have 17 more episodes between now and the end of Season 5 next year to watch them do it.
