It’s been a minute (SurrealEstate four years ago) since Syfy rolled out an original summer series, which it was known for back in the days of Sci-Fi (I see you Killoys and Dark Matter), and this summer, it’s returning to its roots with the fourth season of Resident Alien and the premiere of a new series from SurrealEstate production house Blue Ice Pictures that brings back Wynnona Earp herself and looks very promising. I’m here for it.
Announced this morning, Revival (no tents in sight) marks the return of Melanie Scrofano to the network in a genre series based on the Image Comics series of the same name from Tim Seeley and Mike Norton. Filmed in and around New Brunswick, Canada, the premise takes a page from the zombie oeuvre as the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves one miraculous day in rural Wisconsin.
Instead of it turning into a Walking Dead situation, the formerly dead just reset to who they were before, which of course freaks everyone right the hell out. (The Returned trafficked here, too, but was much darker.) When local Officer and single mother Dana Cypress (Scrofano) is unexpectedly thrown into the center of a brutal murder mystery, she’s left to make sense of the chaos amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.
In addition to Scrofano, the ensemble cast includes Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, and Andy McQueen, as well as recurring guest stars Steven Ogg, Phil Brooks (CM Punk), Gia Sandhu, Katherine King So, Maia Jae, Nathan Dales, Mark Little, Glen Gould, Lara Jean Chorostecki, and Conrad Coates. The series is created by Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce, who serve as showrunners and executive producers. Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, Samantha Levine, Neil Tabatznik, Daniel March, Melanie Scrofano, Greg Hemmings, Stephen Foster & Amanda Row also serve as executive producers. It’s produced by Blue Ice Pictures and Hemmings Films.
Revival premieres Thursday, June 12th, on Syfy, stepping into SurrealEstate‘s 10 pm/9c timeslot after it wraps Season 3. Episodes will stream a week after their linear premiere on Peacock. Here’s a sneak peek!
