[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

Hallmark Channel takes a page from SurrealEstate Saturday night with 3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost, a romcom with a supernatural touch. Real-life sweethearts Julie Gonzalo and Chris McNally co-star as exes who reunite over a real estate listing that comes with a century-old inhabitant who’s not keen to leave.

Newly minted realtor Anna (Gonzalo) is excited about her first listing, for an early 20th century neglected jewel of an estate, until she finds herself face to face with Ruby (Madeleine Arthur), who lived in the house in the 1910s and 1920s, died in 1923, and never left. Ruby’s quite happy as the sole occupant and the women’s relationship gets off to a rocky start — once Anna gets on board with the ghost thing — when Ruby works against her attempts to get the house ready to sell.

That is until they bond over their shared history as runaway brides. Back in the day, Ruby was in love with her driver, Charlie, (Thomas Darya), but let her father’s disapproval win out in the end. And she pined for him until she died in a car accident. Anna ended things with Elliot (McNally) after their joint renovation business failed.

When she offers him an olive leaf to partner on the reno, Ruby refocuses her efforts on getting them back together in the hopes that maybe it will help her gets some closure of her own so she can finally leave. And Anna can figure what — and who — she wants.

Kevin Fair directs a script by Gregg Rossen & Brian Sawyer that’s as much a friendship story as it is a romance, which is a lovely twist on the usual formula as the two soon-to-be besties find each other a century apart and work together to bring each other the happiness they can’t quite manifest for themselves. Hearties fans will enjoy McNally getting to loosen up a bit from his three-piece suit world, and it’s fun to have Gonzalo back in her first Hallmark role since Cut, Color, Murder.

3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost premieres Saturday at 8 pm/7c on Hallmark Channel and streaming in the US and on W Network in Canada. Here are a couple of sneak peeks.
