TV Goodness Teaser: MGM+ Drops The Winter King Trailer

Don’t know about you, but on our radar for August: The Winter King. Right off the bat the newbie drama’s giving Game of Thrones and, even, Vikings vibes. Merlin, too, since the series does take on the Arthurian legends of yore.

This week, MGM+ dropped the official trailer for what the press release dubbed “a bold and revisionist take” on the universe that, once again, brings us the likes of Arthur Pendragon, High King Uther, Merlin, Guinevere, Lancelot and others.

THE INTEL

Synopsis

The Winter King is set in the fifth century, long before Britain was united, in a brutal land of warring factions and tribes, where lives were often fleeting. The series follows Arthur Pendragon as he evolves from outcast to legendary warrior and leader.

The IP

The Winter King is based on Bernard Cornwell’s Warlord Chronicles, which was a trilogy of books published back in the ‘90s consisting of: The Winter King, Enemy of God and Excalibur. Since the series is based on the beloved Warlord Trilogy, it’ll be interesting to see how closely the series will follow the books.

THE CAST

THE OFFICIAL TRAILER

From the looks of this trailer, we’re about to see an Iain De Caestecker like we haven’t seen before. And it all ends on a relatable note with Arthur saying, “It’s easy to divide a country. The hard task: putting it back together.”

The Winter King starts streaming on MGM+ Sunday, August 20.
