Previewing Love’s Greek to Me

[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

Jet off to Greece this weekend, minus the packing, the passport, and the plane, with Love’s Greek to Me, premiering Saturday night on Hallmark Channel, W Network, and Peacock. Directed by Michael Robison and written by Joie Botkin, the film stars Torrey DeVitto and Yannis Tsimitselis as Ilana and Mike, an archeology professor and a hotel developer, who head off to Greece for the wedding of his sister Alex (Katerina Konstas) to Dimitri (Christos “Chris” Adamopoulos).

Immediately upon arriving, and even before his sister’s big day, Mike surprises Ilana with a marriage proposal, much to the delight of his mother, Athena (Marina Sirtis) and hers, Susie (Jo Price). Ilana, the product of a marriage that fell apart when her father left years earlier, is outwardly excited by the development but internally struggling with a thousand emotions.

As she sorts out her own feelings, she also has to deal with the literal Greek chorus of Athena, who just wants everyone to be happy, even if that means barreling through delicate conversations and situations. Thankfully, Athena also invites Susie to join them for Alex’s wedding, giving Ilana a sounding board for all her fears.

And there’s a career component in there, too, as being in Greece presents an opportunity for Ilana to get out of the classroom and back in the field. That’s also a hefty emotional complication for her to consider as she tries to heal her own heart with breaking Mike’s.

It’s a sweet film in the same vein of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which gets namedropped in the first five minutes — so they know and lean into it. And it’s another gorgeous travelogue, picking up where The Wedding Veil: Legacy left off earlier this year.

Love’s Greek to Me premieres Saturday at 8 pm/7c on Hallmark Channel and streaming on Peacock in the U.S. and on W Network in Canada. Here are a couple of sneak peeks.
