Saturday night, Hallmark Channel rolls out a musical romcom with a dash of whimsy in Just One Kiss, headlined by Broadway stars Krysta Rodriguez and Santino Fontana, who play college literature professor Mia and Manhattan supper club singer Tony. Their meet cute courtesy of their respective mamas, Marlene (Illeana Douglas) and Sofia (Aida Turturro) takes some time to yield the desired sparks.

Marlene and Sofia are resourceful, though, so they keep tweaking their plan, and when Mia and Tony wind up neighbors and her daughter, Rosie (Ava Grace Cooper), and his niece, Isabella (Alice Rose), quickly become friends, they finally get past their initial misgivings about each other.

Adding to the speed bumps along the way is Mia’s ex-husband, Casey (Edward Ruttle), who really doesn’t want to be divorced and angles for a second chance with his family, even if it means misrepresenting their situation. On the side of good are Mia’s BFF, Nick (Hallmark regular Matty Finochio) and his partner, Derek (Edwin Perez).

Throw in old-fashioned movies and breaking into song, and you have a recipe for a lovely springtime entry in Hallmark Channel’s Spring Into Love set of new movies. It’s also super fun to see Douglas and Turturro really enjoying themselves as the meddling moms. Diane Robin & Davide Reali‘s story was adapted by them and Nina Weinman and directed by Jeff Beesley.
