Game of Thrones S8E4 Preview

After last week’s surprising victory at Winterfell (like, how many wights were swarming Sam? But he’s fine? We think surprising is the only appropriate description), we’re back to mortal squabbles in this week’s Game of Thrones episode.

The trailer for episode four of this final season showed our characters dealing with the aftermath of the Battle of Winterfell, and a smug Daenerys, riding high on her victory. Daenerys seems ready to take on Cersei—after defeating the White Walkers how scary could an army of humans be? But with the major losses Team Dany has had (the Dothraki, the most impressive land warriors in the world were snuffed out as soon as they stepped onto the battlefield; and both living dragons suffered some amount of injuries) it’s unclear what the plan is.

Of course, we also have the truth of Jon Snow’s rightful claim to the throne hanging over our heads. Frankly, it doesn’t seem like Jon or Daenerys are very interested in this secret getting out. Could it be that Daenerys could do something to alienate the few who do know the truth into revealing it themselves? Without the threat of the White Walkers, there’s a lot less to risk in terms of throwing a wrench into Daenerys’s agenda. And what in the world has been happening in King’s Landing while all hell was breaking loose in Winterfell?

Games of Thrones airs Sundays at 9/8c on HBO.
