[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

We’re in the home stretch on Season 1 of Bellevue, and Tuesday’s next-to-last episode is Off. The. Chain. This is one of those hours where you spend a decent amount of time on the roller coaster incline and then the bottom drops completely out.

I’m reasonably certain nobody is going to call the twists, turns, and multiple reveals in advance, and that’s the mark of a really good show. The truth is equal parts devastating and horrifying.

Annie’s world is rocked by her discovery of Adam, but she’s flailing with nobody available to actually confide in about it. Separately, she and Brady dive back into Jesse’s case, bolstered by what Virginia discovered last week about Tom’s faulty alibi.

Daisy acts out, endangering herself and then accidentally providing Annie with a significant clue in the case. Eddie makes plans for his family, which puts Annie in an additional predicament.

Peter again goes the lone gunman route in an attempt to protect Annie, which gifts us with a series of stunning scenes inside and outside a gorgeous church. Series showrunner Adrienne Mitchell directs a script by Morwyn Brebner (Mary Kills People).

Bellevue airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on WGN America. If you missed an episode, they’re available now on the network’s website. Here are a couple of sneak peeks of “The Man Behind the Curtain.”
