All we knew about the Beats deal when it was announced back in 2014 was that it made Dr. Dre a billionaire. But that’s not the beginning (or end) of this story.
What we like about any documentary we watch is how much we learn. We had no idea Jimmy Iovine was part of the narrative. We had heard his name before and we knew he was huge in the music industry, but that’s where our knowledge stopped. So going in, we assumed this with would be an “origin story” of sorts about both of these moguls and, part 1 does not disappoint. We thought we knew a little something about Dre because of Straight Outta Compton, but that film really only scratched the surface of his story.
Set amid many of the defining events of the past four decades, this four-part documentary event tells the stories of Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, their improbable partnership and their leading roles in a series of transformative events in contemporary culture.
