One of the fun things about the success of When Calls the Heart is that it has introduced several Canadian actors to new global fans. Two of those, Kavan Smith and Pascale Hutton, have been on my radar for a very long time, and Hallmark knows a good thing when they have it, so they’ve reteamed the pair, who play fan favorite couple Leland and Rosemary on that show, in Saturday’s The Perfect Bride, a new film that’s part of June Weddings month.
Smith has already been a familiar presence in Hallmark movies back to my much loved Growing the Big One, but this is Hutton’s first lead role in one. Here she plays fitness trainer and former marriage counselor Molly White, who runs a “Bridal Boot Camp†fitness and yoga class with pre-marital counseling exercises for engaged couples.
Smith plays Nick Dyson, a photographer who seems to be having doubts about his upcoming marriage to Molly’s client, an overbearing perfectionist. While helping couples find their happiness and begin their new lives together, Molly discovers she also needs to learn how to forgive herself for the past so she can move forward with life and love in her future.
WCTH director Martin Wood directs a script by Rick Garman (Sound of Christmas). The rest of the cast includes Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D‘s Mark Dacascos, iZombie‘s Leanne Lapp, who has also worked regularly on Hallmark projects like Garage Sale Mystery and Love at First Bark, Anna Van Hooft (Cedar Cove), and Heartland‘s Kerry James.
