[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

Syfy premieres another new fall entry tonight, the first installment in a multi-season scripted project called Channel Zero. First up, Candle Cove, which follows a therapist back home to the scene of something from his child that was capital BAD and still plagues him.

I chatted a little bit with The Strain‘s Natalie Brown about the series when we spoke this past summer, and she couldn’t tell us much about it, to preserve the boogedy aspect, but here’s an abridged (for spoiler-ish details) logline of what Syfy will tell us:

Season 1 is based on Kris Straub’s “creepypasta” short story about one man’s obsessive recollection of a mysterious children’s television program from the 1980s–and his ever-growing, dreadful suspicions about the role it might have played in a series of nightmarish and deadly events from his childhood.

Mike Painter (Parks and Recreation‘s Paul Schneider) returns to the hometown he left as a kid only to relive the childhood happenings when his brother was one of five children murdered in a case that was never solved. Old memories return to the surface when a child goes missing in the present, and Candle Cove, a creepy children’s puppet show that factored into brother’s murder, seems to be related again.

The rest of the cast includes True Blood‘s Fiona Shaw, Shaun Benson (The Girlfriend Experience), and Luisa D’Oliveira (The 100).

I can tell you that it nails down the spooky, in a way that’s even a little more unsettling this fall as people keep spotting creepy clowns all over the place. Not that clowns factor in here, but it’s almost a meta observation about normalcy vs. randomly terrifying.

Candle Cove: Channel Zero premieres at 9/8c on Syfy. Here are a few sneaks to get you ready. Maybe leave a light or four on if you watch it after dark.
