In last week’s episode of The Night Of, the Khans fell into attorney Alison Crowe’s allegedly capable hands after ditching John Stone as Naz’s lawyer. But is she really looking out for Naz’s best interests?

We’ll get to see Naz’s new lawyer in action in the fourth installment of The Night Of “The Art of War.” After the close of episode four, “A Dark Crate,” which featured Naz watching as his cot went up in flames, we know things are getting very tense for Naz in Rikers Island.

In the promo for this week’s episode, we hear Alison Crowe make the comment, “If we would like to see a young man with no criminal record turned into a criminal, let’s have him sit at Rikers as long as the slow wheels of justice take.” She makes a good point. Rikers is not a good place for Naz to be; he can only victimize or be victimized — both options seem undesirable.

One thing’s for sure, Naz is not a swaggering criminal yet, and his time in jail has been difficult to say the least. With the direction things seem to be moving in, it’s only a matter of time before tensions come to a head and explode into violence — and we have a feeling Naz is the one who’s going to get hurt. Expect Freddy to be back this week, and hopefully Naz hasn’t totally blown it and that Freddy is still willing to offer up some protection, preferably at not too high of a price.

We’re also hoping we’ll finally get more time spent investigating Andrea’s murder in “The Art of War.” After all, Detective Box has been lying low for a while. And even though John’s been booted from the case, we have a feeling he’s not the type to give up that easily.

The Night Of airs Sundays at 9/8c on HBO.
