WARNING: Mild spoilers for Dark Matter Season 2 premiere

Tonight, Syfy drops a one-two punch of sci-fi goodness with the returns of Dark Matter and Killjoys.

On Dark Matter, the crew of the Raza finds themselves in another unfamiliar predicament. At the end of the first season, Six’s betrayal led to his friends being carted off the ship unconscious. When they wake up, let’s just say their independence days are over.

The official synopsis for the Dark Matter premiere is short but sweet. And by sweet, we clearly mean ominous:

The crew awakens to find themselves prisoners on the Hyperion-8 Maximum Security Galactic Detention Facility.

What’s New

Well, aside from the fact that this season begins in a completely new place which provides a completely new set of circumstances, there are a couple new characters who are introduced in the premiere.

Melanie Liburd (Game of Thrones, The Grinder, Strike Back) plays Nyx. This girl is fierce. According to Syfy, she is “the physical equal to her formidable crew mates with her killer instincts. Having spent recent years in and out of prison, she’s cautiously optimistic about finding a place to call home onboard the Raza.”

Will she be friend or foe? Right off the bat? It’s complicated.

Shaun Sipos (Melrose Place, Life Unexpected, The Vampire Diaries) plays Devon, “who was once a world class surgeon and now is haunted by a dark past that may pose a danger to himself and his fellow crew members.”
