I loved the first season of Wayward Pines, so when I heard the series had been renewed for another season I got really excited. If you haven’t watched any of the series yet, you’ve still got a little time to marathon the episodes. It’s not entirely necessary to know all the details, so if you want to jump in now you can. But watch this first:

We’ve got a good number of returning characters as well as some new faces. The two new characters I’m most excited and curious about are Jason Patric‘s Theo Yedlin and Djimon Hounsou‘s CJ Mitchum.

Jason Patric is Theo Yedlin, a confident, driven surgeon whose leadership skills will prove invaluable to the residents of Wayward Pines.

Djimon Hounsou is CJ Mitchum, an original resident of Wayward Pines and a historian for the town with extensive knowledge of its complex origins and the one person who can provide a unique bridge between the current world of Wayward Pines and the previous world that humans inhabited.

When I attended WonderCon in March, I had the chance to talk to the actors as well as EPs M. Night Shyamalan, Donald De Line, Blake Crouch and Ashwin Rajan. They were understandably cagey about giving away major spoilers, but we were able to get some great details out of them.

Jason Patric on his character, the civil war in Wayward Pines, on Theo’s interactions with other characters in the first few episodes, Djimon Hounsou on his character, what CJ knows about the town and why the actors decided to come to TV:

Jason Patric on how much they know ahead of time, both on preparing to play these characters, when their characters might meet, what Theo has the most trouble with dealing with in Wayward Pines and why they’re excited about these characters:

EPs Ashwin Rajan and Donald De Line on the challenge of continuing this story for another season, returning characters, new characters and where we are at the beginning of S2, upcoming twists, the book’s influence on the series, M. Night Shyamalan’s involvement, if the tone of the show shifts this season and if the show will venture outside of Wayward Pines:

EPs M. Night Shyamalan and Blake Crouch on the challenge of S2 and going beyond just setting up the premise, on choosing to make this a TV series vs. a film, first generation motivations, and the composition of the writer’s room:

Season 2 of Wayward Pines premieres Wednesday, May 25th at 9/8c on FOX.
