We’re almost here! Penny Dreadful is the show that nearly broke me last summer, and I’m so glad they’re almost back. If the premiere is any indication, this is still one of the most beautifully crafted series running right now–from the words to the sets to the actors. I can happily tell you that it is also magnificently dark, broody, and scary as hell.
I was a bit hesitant after the second season finale scattered the core crew to the four winds, and the season premiere picks up with that geographical separation still very much intact, but as long as we get everyone back on the same continent in an expedient fashion, I’ll be just fine.

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime on Sunday May 1st at 10/9c, with our core cast now joined by Patti LuPone and Wes Studi as new series regulars. There’s not a better pair of fantastic, dangerous actors to be joining this tribe. Also look for Christian Camargo, who you might recognize as Duke’s wayward brother from the third season of Haven, and Shazad Latif (Toast of London) to recur this season.
