[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

After last week’s fast and furious episode, Bitten slows things way, way down Monday night with “Of Sonders Weight,” an episode which breaks out into three separate pairs of discussions that round back to the Pack and its laws.

On the homefront, Elena confronts, and gets the whole story from, Sasha about her mother, which leads her to a realization about her own relationship with Jeremy. Jeremy is torn between head and heart, right and wrong, and the code as he talks to Karen about what she may or may not have witnessed.

Out in the woods, Clay and Aleixi try to determine who Alexei killed, and where he went. That arc gets a bit of a different spin as we meet Trevor, the man he jumped, which paints a portrait for Alexei about the humanity in everyone, and how important it is to retain that during the change. And yes, if you’re a Canadian hockey fan, that is George Stroumboulopoulos as the poor SOB out in the woods at the exact wrong time.

Written by showrunner Daegan Fryklind and directed by executive producer J. B. Sugar, it’s a quiet, emotional hour, probably the most so far in the run of the series, or I’m just more invested now than I was in seasons past. The English Lit nerd in me I loved that it’s an actual heartfelt ode to the word “sonder.” I really, really like the dynamic between Laura Vandervoort and John Ralston as Sasha, so I hope that having them clear the air doesn’t automatically mean he’s dead now. I vote no.

Bitten airs at 11/10c Mondays on Syfy. Click here for a preview of Monday’s new episode.
