Countdown to Vikings Season 4: The Trailer

Countdown to Vikings Season 4: The Trailer

Breaking news: HISTORY just made our new year as painful as possible (in a good way). The channel released the first full trailer for Season 4. As expected, it’s brutal. Awesomely brutal.

The most interesting aspect (for us) is the brotherly battle that may be brewing. Ragnar and Rollo have a Vikings-ship full of issues. They may unload them all over each other when the hit drama returns. Bjorn also gets a lot of play in this look at the new season. He’s the heir apparent. Will he have a chance to take over for his father?

On our minds is the key art that was recently unveiled — the image of Ragnar in the middle and either nobody acknowledging his presence or Bjorn and Floki directly looking at him in pursuit of his throne (potentially).

It’s good to see that Linus Roache’s King Ecbert is still a part of the action. And Aslaug’s ambitions are flaring. But, mostly, we’re here for whether or not Ragnar is still king at the end of the 20-episode fourth season. And we’re here for what becomes of Lagertha. She still has Rolf to contend with — hopefully, she’ll get the best of him. Admittedly, we’re worried. There is that prophecy The Seer revealed at the beginning of Season 3, the one about her death already being decided by the gods. That doesn’t mean it’ll happen anytime soon. But we’re still worried.

Once again, here’s the info on Season 4 courtesy of HISTORY:

Season three culminated with the extraordinary battle in Paris, where Ragnar (Fimmel) seized victory from the jaws of defeat – but still returns to Kattegat dangerously ill. Thoughts of his death galvanize the forces who seek to succeed him as king, including his wife Queen Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) and his oldest son, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig). Meanwhile, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) continues power struggles with her calculating, former second in command, Kalf (Ben Robson); Rollo (Clive Standen) betrays his Vikings heritage by remaining in Frankia and Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) is seized for his brutal actions to the Christian priest Athelstan.

Joining the stellar cast this season is Peter Franzén (The Gunman) as “King Harold Finehair,” a complex character who seeks to be King of Norway and a potential threat to Ragnar; Jasper Pääkkönen (Jet Trash) as “Halfdan The Black,” King Harold’s violent younger brother; and Dianne Doan (“Descendants”) as “Yidu,” a completely different character within the world of the Vikings who fascinates Ragnar.

Blood. Power. Season 4 of Vikings sets sail Thursday, February 18 at 10/9c on HISTORY.
