Lori Loughlin is back to kick off the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries 2016 slate of original movies with her fifth Garage Sale Mystery. Guilty Until Proven Innocent reunites Jennifer with an estranged old friend, Sandra (Supernatural‘s Kirsten Robek) just as she’s accused of murder. It takes about a minute for bygones to be bygones as Jennifer ferrets out the truth. While that’s going on, Logan is pulled into a school hacking scheme and Dani entertains a tantalizing professional opportunity.

Loughlin (who is still so good in this role) is joined by series staples Sarah Strange (also A+), Steve Bacic, Eva Bourne, and Kevin O’Grady, but Brendan Meyer has been replaced with When Calls the Heart‘s Connor Stanhope in the role of Logan.

That leaves Loughlin and Strange as the only remaining core cast members from the original film, which I guess is a risk when you want to shoot two to three a year and don’t lock in everyone’s availability. I’m glad they’ve retained the Vancouver location, given the recent tax changes that are bumping productions toward Ontario. Peter DeLuise and Walter Klenhard return to direct and write, and they have this down now.

Fun fact: the yellow Smallville house and signature red barn make their fourth appearance on Hallmark in recent years–they popped up in last year’s A Country Wedding and 2014’s For Better or Worse and When Sparks Fly.

Garage Sale Mystery: Guilty Until Presumed Innocent is another strong installment in the series–I’m so glad these are part of the HMM rotation. The new film premieres at 9/8c Sunday on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, following a daylong GSM movie marathon of the previous four films that kicks off at 1 pm/12c. Here’s a sneak peek.

I thought I recognized the farm house and barn that belonged to Sandra. It was the Kent farm on Smallville.

Yep. It’s been used a few times by Hallmark in the last couple of years.
