[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

After last week’s emotionally decimating hour, this week’s Killjoys literally and figuratively splits the team while they figure out exactly what they are now. The good news is that Dutch and D’avin are forced to really talk to each other. The bad news is the result of those heart-to-hearts isn’t completely conclusive. Johnny, meanwhile, is trapped at the bar during a chemical storm that brings with it a few other dangers, and Pawter has no choice but to reveal a secret.

It’s another stellar hour (directed by The Listener‘s Peter Stebbings, who we saw this spring in Bates Motel and recently on Rookie Blue), and as it came to an end, I realized we’re only getting 10 episodes this season, and this is number eight. Gah!

The Television Critics Association summer press tour (a three-week event where TV outlets parade their shows in front of the press) is going on now, so hopefully we will hear something when NBC has their panels. The “but” there is that NBC Universal (which owns Syfy, USA, Chiller, etc.) doesn’t present until next Wednesday, the 12th. Double gah!

I think we’re probably safe for a second season because of the multi-country production pedigree. I hope I’m right. They wrapped filming over six months ago, and I don’t want to lose the cast to other projects–I’d bet they’re under a hold a little while longer, but not much longer. Get on that, Syfy and Space!

Killjoys airs Friday at 9/8c on Syfy. Here is a sneak peek of “Come the Rain.”
