Make sure your saddle fits properly; you are in for quite a ride. Newcomers, unrequited love, failed business ventures and riots are among just some of the big turning points in Poldark: Episode 5.

Here’s a sneak peek:

Ross (Aidan Turner) and Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) welcome their daughter Julia into the world. Elizabeth (Heida Reed) faces her worst fears. Demelza visits Captain Blamey and pleads with him to give Verity (Ruby Bentall) another chance. Townsfolk riot in the wake of unemployment.

Synopsis for Poldark, Part 5: Poldark and Demelza start a family. Demelza plays matchmaker. The miners riot. Francis takes desperate measures to recoup his losses.

Meanwhile at Trenwith, tensions run high when Francis (Kyle Soller) is forced to sell Wheal Grambler. Poldark fans who are familiar with the series, LISTEN CAREFULLY to the LAST LINE of this clip. As you know, someone will make his affections known to Elizabeth – of course that happens down the road.

New characters arrive in Cornwall.

Dr. Dwight Enys (Luke Norris) finally makes his way to town. Dr. Enys has nothing but good intentions. He wants to help the miners who suffer from lung disease.

Mark Daniel (Matthew Wilson) falls madly in love with Keren, (Sabrina Bartlett) – she’s an actress who comes to town with an ensemble of traveling players. The two marry in a quick wedding. Keep your eyes on Keren, because she’s never satisfied. Her arrival in Cornwall proves to be disastrous for some of the main characters in the next few episodes.

Robin Ellis reprises his role as Reverend Halse next week.

Poldark airs on Masterpiece Theater, Sundays at 9/8c on PBS.
