Hallmark Channel’s most beloved film franchise migrates to a weekly format Saturday night with the debut of The Good Witch as an hourly series. Catherine Bell continues in the titular role as Cassie Nightingale.

The series jumps forward from the last film, but isn’t specifically set in the future. Do with that what you will. Joining Cassie are the extended family–her stepchildren and her father-in-law–and familiar faces Martha (Catherine Disher) and Deputy Derek. New to the cast are Bailee Madison as Cassie’s now-teen daughter, Grace, James Denton as their new next-door neighbor, transplanted city doctor Sam, and his son, Nick (Rhys Matthew Bond) who is Grace’s new classmate. Anthony Lemke (Witches of East End) also appears as the local realtor.

The premiere establishes the current dynamic pretty quickly with two episodes back-to-back. Here’s what to expect: The Good Witch will take viewers on a new magical journey with Cassie and her bright teenage daughter Grace, who shares her mom’s special intuitive charm. When Sam, a doctor, and his teenage son move in next door to Grey House, they are immediately charmed by the “magical” mother-daughter duo and wonder is it really magic, a lucky coincidence or just a special intuitive insight only this family possesses?

I’m glad the series finally came to fruition. It has the same charm as the films, and I kept wondering if Army Wives was keeping Bell from committing to one. The timing was right, and it’s a great addition to the network’s rotating series roster.

Here is a sneak peek and a few interviews. The Good Witch premieres Saturday night at 8/7c on Hallmark Channel.
