Warning: Spoilers Ahead

I’ll admit it: I wasn’t all that excited about last week’s troll challenge…at first. But quite a few artists impressed me with their takes on that fabled creature. I love that there were six difference types of bridges used for inspiration and no one impressed me more than Jamie. I never doubted that she was talented — because she made it onto the show in the first place — but this was the first time I sat up and took notice.

Not only did Jamie do a great job of integrating the history of the bridge and location into her makeup, but her execution was very impressive. The fact that Doug Jones, well known for his creature work, said he’d be proud to wear that makeup onscreen is huge. Now that I’ve seen what she’s capable of, I expect to see great things from her every week.

The rest of the pack struggled a bit with this challenge. I know Kelly and Ben also came out on top, but I didn’t love their creations. Kelly’s grieving mother was a great story, but not really a troll and I agreed with Ve’s take on Ben’s creature, which was that it looked like a caricature drawing — which, in my eyes, wasn’t a compliment. Darla was particularly uninspired by this challenge and I really disliked her creation. At the end of the day, I think Anthony was the right choice to send home. It was his third week on the bottom. While I liked that he took Rayce’s suggestion to think out of the box to heart, he let himself down with that paint job.

Episode synopsis, from Syfy:

For this week’s Spotlight Challenge, the artists find themselves in the middle of the woods where they’re shocked to find out they’ll be body-painting nude models.
