[Warning: General spoilers ahead.]

Well. Didn’t expect that but I’m not sure what I did. We’ve arrived at the end season 5.1/5.a with 13 more episodes to follow TBD in 2015. I’m guessing that surely sets us up for a cliffhanger.

It’s been a frustrating season for me because I felt like Mara sort of overtook things. I also haven’t been able to watch the last handful of episodes live since the timeslot change, so I think that diminished my momentum and partnered with my malaise. I’m hoping for a solid finale that doesn’t leave everybody in a muddle (or a puddle–there are Troubles afoot, after all).

We go into the finale with the news that Charlotte is Mara’s mother. We don’t know where that means Charlotte’s actually *from*. And now it’s doubly complicated because she just started a relationship with Dwight.

This all keys off Audrey finding a ring that matches hers and Nathan’s. And I’m a BAD fan because I don’t remember there ever being a discussion about Audrey and Nathan having matching rings, and that he wears his while she keeps hers with her badge. Did we know that?

It also turns out that Duke’s dalliance with Mara was all part of her plan and he walked right into it — he’s now a Trouble activator, which makes you wonder if that happened every time Mara had sex with someone, i.e. is that how William was “turned?” At least she tipped her hand and Duke now gets it that he was played. A pissed off Duke is more powerful than a pining Duke.

Here’s what we’re promised tonight: As Mara’s endgame is revealed, Nathan and Audrey pursue a plan to stop her once and for all.

And here’s a sneak peek. No marathon beforehand — Z Nation drew the long straw for that. Haven airs tonight at 7/6c and 11/10c.
