[Warning: General spoilers ahead]

Hallmark Hall of Fame launches its first film that will air solely on Hallmark Channel with the premiere Sunday night of One Christmas Eve, a mayhem-filled affair about a newly divorced mom determined to create a perfect first Christmas as a single parent of two pre-teens. Of course, nothing goes to plan, and the family makes their own special holiday out of a series of accidents that bring new acquaintances into their lives.

Anne Heche headlines as Nell, who’s firing on all cylinders Christmas Eve, baking cookies and spreading cheer when a man’s attempt to ding-dong-ditch with a puppy sets the evening off on an entirely different tangent. Joining Heche as her ragtag family of children and strangers are Kevin Daniels (Sirens), Carlos Gomez (Gang Related, The Glades), Brian Tee (Legends, Grimm), Ali Skovbye (Falling Skies), and Griffin Kane (Sirens)

Here’s the formal logline: Nell wants this Christmas to be extra‐special for her two kids. It turns out to be special, indeed, but it’s not what she had in mind. Everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Chaos reigns in this entertaining comedy, and the notion of `family’ takes on a whole new meaning.

It’s a fun, busy movie that’s lighter than the usual HHOF fare. Heche is really good as a woman doing her best to roll with it, and hold it all together, with varying degrees of success. Her character here reminds me of her role on Men in Trees (which is STILL not available On Demand or on DVD).
