Eyaaaaaalll! Ahem. Thanks to USA’s promo team, I’m not spoiling anything by telling you that Annie’s bestest ally who isn’t Auugie (or McQuaid) returns when Annie needs him as Covert Affairs resumes its fifth season Thursday.

“Trigger Cut” begins in the aftermath of the summer season finale. McQuaid lies in a comatose state, and Annie, desperate for something, anything to do to fix things, heads across the Atlantic when Arthur gets a lead on Belenko. She finds it harder than she expected to run a solo op off book from the CIA, and with McQuaid Industries somewhat in tatters, but thankfully she’s not on her own for long.

Back home, the CIA is supporting her on the DL as Auggie pursues his own leads with Tony (Rossif Sutherland) and Calder makes Sydney an offer. The whole gang has something to do, and it’s a solid, busy hour as the entire team ramps up for the back six episodes (FWIW, we do NOT have a greenlight for a sixth season yet).

Y’all know I love Oded Fehr and Piper Perabo together, so I’m just giddy for us to get so much time with them right out of the gate, even if Eyal lies to her. (I’m 99.9% sure it’s a lie). If you’re like me, expect to have a dumb grin for about half the episode.

I’m so glad this show is back. I always miss them when they’re on a break. Look for Shawn Doyle to return, and Rachel Wilson, who was in last month’s The Good Witch’s Wonder over on Hallmark Channel, to pop up.

Covert Affairs airs Thursday night at 10/9c on USA. Here’s a sneak peek.
