I Can’t Get Over You to Save My Life: Ruke Selfies, Locker Room Rumbles and How To Lose Millions of Dollars in the Music Business
Nashville started off this week at a rapid tempo with Rayna & Luke (Ruke? Layna?) scrambling to find a wedding date, Juliette puke-dialing Avery, and Will pumping more than just a little iron with his trainer. Lots of hookups, attempted hook-ups and jealousy in this episode.
On the road, tempers flare between Luke and Deacon. Who saw that coming? Everyone loves Ruke, and even the glamour mag-photo shoot dude wants a selfie with them, which Rayna promises to retweet because she’s on Twitter with a checkmark.
Luke’s the alpha country star and seems to enjoy rubbing his engagement in Deacon’s face, but when Rayna tries to push back the wedding it’s pretty obvious Luke is threatened by Deacon’s proposal. But when Rayna flies all the way to LA to make up with Luke, Deacon storms off-stage and works through his jealousy with a forward new back-up singer. “You’re the only damn woman in the world who doesn’t know I’m in love with Rayna Jaymes.â€Â Oh she knows, but at least she’s not assuming his ex’s identity during foreplay like someone else we can (and will) mention shortly.
Drunk Avery is back, and he is stumbling and sexing his way through Nashville. He got all dark on stage with Zoey & Gunnar, and when he took home yet another groupie-type, she tried her best Juliette imitation. But once you’ve had butter it’s hard to go back to margarine and Avery sent her home before closing the deal.
Watching Juliette was really sad this time around. Shutting out Glenn, looking for advice from an angry Deacon, trying to find a way to talk to Avery, and then finally winding up on Rayna’s doorstep because, of course, who else could understand her situation better?Â

Layla and Will fake their way thru a fantastic duet, once again fooling the cameras. However, once the cameras are off, Layla is back to the crazy. Will, who has finally had enough, storms out with, “I may be gay, but you’re insane!†This was my favorite quote of the night, and apparently I wasn’t the only one judging by the tweets I’ve seen from fellow Nashville fans. A few scenes later, Will and his buff trainer take their workout behind closed doors.
Meanwhile, Layla, realizing her threats aren’t working with her husband, turns her wooky-eyes onto Jeff Fordham, which I personally love. His character could not deserve it more! You know what would be even better? If Highway 65 would sign Sadie Stone (played by Tony winner Laura Benanti) instead of Edgehill Republic.
One final observation on the Ruke/Layna situation: what decent manager would even allow the financially crippling idea of combining two conflicting already-booked blockbuster world tours? “Hey hon, let’s do twice as much work for half the money! Excellent! I’ll get my people on it.†However, it will throw Deacon into Rayna’s path daily, and that’s good news for all the folks on Team Deacon.
Nashville airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on ABC.

Two Takes: The Catch “The Knock-Off”
Who can you trust? If this episode of The Catch was any indication, the answer is just about nobody. Betrayal was running rampant as Felicity (Shivani Ghai) arose from the dead to seduce-con Margot, Gretchen (Maria Thayer, Gotham, The Mindy Project) played gold-hearted Alice 2.0 before swindling Ethan, Tessa jumped…

What They Said: Top 4 Quotable Moments from Black Sails “XXIII”
The dialogue in “XXIII” is phenomenal. It’s always a fun ride when Black Sails carries its viewers along without giving them the chance to catch their breath. When an episode moves at this unforgiving pace, there is no chance for a breather nor is there a respite from the information…
What Lucifer Said: Favorite quotes from Supernatural “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”

What They Said: The Flash, “Legends Of Today” and Arrow, “Legends Of Yesterday”

What they Said: Top 4 Quotable Moments from Graceland “Little Bo Bleep”
Shoot outs. Fake outs. And long-awaited revelations. “Little Bo Bleep” was a jam-packed episode that wrapped up some loose ends and totally frayed others. Â It finally gave us one Sarkissian in jail and pulled back the curtain on Briggs’ master plan, but it also set up Jakes for a world…

“What have I told you, I don’t require my wife to crochet and sip tea, but I do require her to remember she’s not a beast of burden.†No, I’m not talking about The Rolling Stones! I have to admit though, just for a second, the lyrics popped into my…
3 Moments of Goodness from Brooklyn Nine-Nine “Johnny and Dora”
The most satisfying part of this season’s finale has to the Jake and Amy kiss. Well, they kiss three times but the last one is the best one — and it means something. The Charles and Rosa dynamic was also great. I love how she’s convinced he doesn’t know anything…
I think they’re going a little bit over the top with Avery and his descent into pathetic levels of drunkenness and man-whoring around. I get it, the Juliette thing destroyed him, but it’s almost like he’s become a caricature of himself. I have no problem with his overall plot, but seriously guys a little restraint would make for more enjoyable viewing.
Speaking of Avery and his fondness for random skanks, I did really like that they used a song by Wildling during the scene at his apartment when’s making out with one and thought it was really appropriate given the song is called “I Can’t Get Over You To Save My Life” and that’s exactly what Avery’s trying to do at that moment.
I have to agree with you about Avery. It’s too much. I get it that he was hurt. But his behavior since finding out was heartbreaking…for a little while. And then pathetic. I like those two together a lot though. I hope they get back together…eventually.
