Crazy Eyes, Kitchen Shears and 7 Carats of Happiness, Nashville “That’s Me Without You”

The Nashville Season 3 opener didn’t disappoint, with all those sweet flashbacks to the tumultuous early days of the Rayna/Deacon romance, Deacon’s drinking, and a young Luke Wheeler with a mullet who was clearly in love with her way back when. And who couldn’t fall in love with Luke after he was all understanding about Deacon’s proposal and giving Rayna space to follow her heart? Now, I’m not convinced that seven-carat diamond’s going to stick — did you see that unsure look on her face near the end at The Bluebird? Perhaps there’s hope for Team Deacon yet!

Meanwhile, over at Juliette’s pad, it’s clear Avery cannot deal with Juliette’s Jeff Fordham revelation. And neither can Juliette. She does pull it together enough to have a wildly successful audition to play Patsy Cline – which was the best musical number of the night — but she fell to pieces later and hacked her hair off with kitchen shears in a weeping rage about losing her soul and everything she cared about. God bless her manager, Glenn, and the doctor he called in who dropped the biggest revelation of the night! Looks like Hayden Panettiere’s real life pregnancy won’t have to be worked around this season. And you know that baby is Jeff Fordham’s because when has Juliette ever caught a break?

Then there’s the whole Layla/Will saga. Layla had the crazy eyes all night so you know when she finally blows up, it is going to be epic. Especially after their reality show producer busts them with tape of Will’s weeping confession and basically tells them to push down all their real feelings and keep right on pretending because the network “doesn’t want a show about a gay cowboy and his naïve wife.” Ummm, I have never heard a television producer get it so wrong. Someone please tell her that the focus groups are leading her astray because this is exactly what I want to watch. And I would also like Will to take off his shirt a little more. Giddyup!

With three live performances sandwiched into a jam-packed premiere, the network aired next week’s preview only on the Nashville home page. It looks like next week Juliette will decide what to do about this whole baby situation while Maddie freaks out that her mother is marrying Luke and demands Deacon “fight for her!” Check it out here:

Nashville airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on ABC.
