Rookie Blue wraps its 5th season tonight with a twofer, and it’s significant because it may well be the ABC series finale for U.S. viewers. The network hasn’t yet committed to the air the episodes now shooting in Toronto (which were initially pegged as a back half of season five but are now going to run as a 6th, and perhaps final season).

The good news there is Canada wrapped up this same batch of episodes a couple of weeks ago, so nobody’s going to inadvertently spoil you on the next set. And ION has picked up syndication in the U.S., which means it’s entirely possible that ION may just run the 6th season next summer if ABC passes on it. The ratings have been solid so I think ABC will pick it back up–it’s just late in the game if they do–they grabbed season five last July.

First, we close out a strange sort of season–Oliver in charge, Sam and Andy back together, Gail sort of flailing, Traci and Steve at odds over her ex, Nick on his own, Diaz back on drugs, and Dov and Chloe trying to be together but still not completely on the same page–with two back-to-back episodes. Special guest stars include Shawn Doyle who I love for Endgame and who recently popped up in Fargo, and Being Erica’s Erin Karpluk, who begins a recurring role that goes into season six.

Here are the official loglines:

“Fragments” – Andy and Sam are in such a good place that she just can’t help but feel like she’s waiting for the other shoe to drop. So when Andy learns her former rookie, Duncan, is back on active duty and hoping to reconcile, she’s sure that this is what her anxiety was anticipating. But it’s all hands on deck when a car bomb explodes in a downtown parking garage – quickly followed by a second explosion at a busy local intersection. Duncan, eager to prove himself, goes rogue and it’s up to Andy and Nick to get the situation under control and save Duncan before they run out of time.

“Everlasting” — With a car-bomber still on the loose, the officers of 15 Division work frantically to track down the suspect while trying to figure out if more bombs have been planted around the city. Just when it feels like the worst is over, a bomb goes off in the evidence room of the station. But the violence – and the surprises – aren’t over, leaving Sam dumbfounded.
