At the end of the last episode, Dr. Goodweather finally realized they were way beyond finding a treatment for this new virus and officially traded in his surgical tools for a silver sword and a can of gasoline. After scratching Doyle Redfern and Emma Arnot off their hit list, Eph and Setrakian appear to be on their way to the home of Ansel Barbour.  Well, at least we hope so, because someone needs to put the guy out of his misery.

And for the Kevin Durand fans out there, yes, Vasily Fet is back in this episode and he appears to be front and center. Fet may not know a lot of things but he does know rats and vermin. So, when the sewer rats of New York City begin abandoning their nests and start filling the streets, subways and public buildings, Fet is on the front line to investigate.

And we finally get a glimpse into the arc that I have been looking forward to the most and that’s the backstory of Eichhorst and Setrakian. Ever since that super-creepy jailhouse confrontation in episode two, I have been anxiously waiting for the details on how these two met. We know they crossed paths in a Nazi concentration camp in World War II, but was Eichhorst already a vampire at that time and how did they get to be so dead-set against each other? Is it Sunday yet?  I can’t wait!

Check out our Comic-Con 2014 coverage of The Strain where Richard Sammel (“Thomas Eichhorst”) and David Bradley (“Abraham Setrakian”) discuss their roles and the decades-long vendetta between their two characters.

Episode 1.05 of The Strain  is titled “Runaways” and airs this Sunday at 10/9c on FX.
