[Warning: General spoilers in article, images, and preview.]

Poor, dear Piper Perabo. I don’t know how she does it. Her burden is great, surrounded by all these lovely fellas on Covert Affairs, and for the record, I’m equally impressed they form complete sentences around her, too. This week, she picks up one of another one of mine (ahem) as Max Martini (most recently in Crisis, and God help us, he’s in Fifty Shades of Grey) drops by for an episode. While this doesn’t elicit quite the eeee!!!-sponse of another appearance by Eyal, it’ll do. I’m happy to have Martini working anywhere.

Here’s what we need to know: Annie and McQuaid travel to Azerbaijan in search of a mysterious, off-the-grid ex-CIA officer, Nathan Mueller (Martini). When he and Annie comes face to face, she’s unsettled to learn they share similar inner demons. Back home,  Auggie’s devastated to discover unfortunate details about an old friend and Calder’s actions lead to a confrontation with Joan.

I’m keen to see where we’re taking Annie. Although I didn’t like her having her ass handed to her by Ivan last week, I really, really liked her final scene with McQuaid. I seriously wish the unit photographer had captured that last moment as McQuaid sat on the balcony watching Annie sleep just inside the door while the Paris sunset faded behind him. I think they will make good allies. I’m reserving judgment on anything more–he still feels a little too close to Simon, and we know how that ended.

I also hope that Arthur gets looped fairly quickly on what McQuaid is up to, and the mole, because I don’t want to go two-for-two with the Campbells having targets on them. As for Calder–I seriously don’t understand why the story arc they’ve given him is bordering on Fatal Attraction. I want more for him. I want Auggie to tell him to get a grip. And I want Auggie to be careful, because Natasha is dangerous, and now it looks like Hayley could be, too. There’s A LOT going on. This is episode 7, and we’re on tap for 16 this season, so we’re almost at the halfway mark. I’d like them to go ahead and greenlight a sixth season now, please.

Ooh! Max Martini – another favorite semi-Canadian actor of mine. (Well, he has triple citizenship: American (born in Woodstock, NY), Canadian, and Italian.) He was brilliant in the UNit, part-time on DaVInci, and so many other things. Why he has not had big screen super-stardom is beyond me, but I’ll watch him in anything.

Thanks for the heads-up on Covert. I do hope IMDB will let me see it on them for free, as I have not been able to get it on the Covert website, and I don’t have TV, as such. Weirdly, IMDB let me see the first Covert episode of the season, but since then, all theyoffer is a pay-for-view via Amazon. boo hoo!
