We all want to know who our ancestors were, what struggles or triumphs they celebrated or endured, what made them who they were so we can find out who we are today. It’s always fun to imagine you’re descended from royalty or that your ancestors made a life-changing discovery. Through these journeys, we get a chance to make connections and hopefully understand all the details of our family histories. What we love most about this show is that we’re on this journey of discovery together. And ok, it’s fun when a skeleton falls out of the closet. Mostly, it’s just kind of nice to know that everybody – celebrities included – wants to know more about where they came from.
The premiere episode focuses on Cynthia Nixon, who you may remember from a little show (and later two huge movies) called Sex and the City. In this episode Cynthia goes on a journey to discover more about her dad’s side of the family, which has always been a bit of a mystery. She’s able to find census information back to her three times great grandmother, which lead to some surprising – maybe even shocking – discoveries.
