I don’t know about the rest of the viewers, but the hiatus this year has felt like it is moving in slow motion, and it seems like forever since the season four finale of The Walking Dead aired back in March. To make matters worse, AMC has been very tight-lipped about any season 5 details, releasing only a couple of official photos. That changed last night with the very first teaser clip being aired on The Talking Dead ‘s season five preview special.

This is a very short clip, but it may have actually revealed more than you realize. Let’s think back to episode 4.03 “Isolation” where Daryl, Michonne, Bob and Tyreese are sent on a run to a nearby veterinary school to retrieve medical supplies for the sick at the prison. On the way, they encounter the mother of all herds. They escape but only barely, with Tyreese originally feared dead after being swarmed. We didn’t know about Terminus back then but now that we do, if you re-watch this scene, there are a couple of important details that may have been overlooked the first time around. First, Daryl hears a voice on the radio, and if you listen closely you can hear the words “Terminus,” “arrive,” and “survive.” This is obviously the radio broadcast from Terminus that was revealed in the season four finale, which means that herd isn’t very far away. Also, if you look off in the distance you can see railroad tracks.

Since “Isolation,” this herd has never been mentioned again and I had hoped it would be revisited and not left out there as some “hanging chad.”  Judging from the teaser, I may be getting my wish in the  premiere, or very early on in season 5. The teaser shows Carol, Tyreese and Judith being followed by what looks like a herd, and they are all heading straight for Terminus. Scott Gimple and Robert Kirkman have said that the season 5 premiere is going to be action-packed like you have never seen before, and if that equates to Terminus being overrun by the herd of the century then we can expect a premiere that fans will be talking about for a very long time. I know I’m crazy-excited now!

The teaser may have been short, but fans shouldn’t despair. The official season 5 trailer will be coming out in just over two weeks when it is premiered at San Diego Comic-Con and if we’re lucky, that should reveal even more deets on what to expect in the first half of the season.

The Walking Dead returns for season five on October 12th at 9/8c on AMC.
