[Warning: General episode spoilers in the article, images, and preview.]

While next week’s episode of Continuum is technically the season three finale, tonight’s episode might as well be taken as the first hour of a two-part season closer because it is EPIC and brutal (and fatal) and sets up game changers all over the place.

I’m not going to spoil anything for you except to tell you that if you miss it, you’ll probably spend the first ten minutes of the actual season finale trying to catch up with who’s on first, and who’s no longer even in the game.

Here are the basics: Kiera and Brad work together to defeat the Freelancers, Carlos tries to retrieve the time travel device from Dillon, and Liber8 works on a new plan while Sonya conspires with Julian, and admits to Travis that she has some doubts and fears about their future. As if that’s not enough, there are some other goodies in there, too, including a a mega explanation (sort of).

It’s been a season of surprises since we kicked off with the mind-bender of multiple timelines and travelers. Last week’s episode really did require a spreadsheet by the end of it. I have mad love for Ryan Robbins (even after The Killing), and I biffed the call that Brad was going to somehow be related to Kiera, because that arc has been turned on its ear. Robbins and Rachel Nichols have terrific chemistry, and that’s only amplified by the hour’s end. We seriously need a fourth season, y’all.

One programming note: as of right now, Syfy has not scheduled a season three marathon before next Friday’s finale. Plan accordingly if you need to catch up.

“The Dying Minutes” airs Friday night at 10/9c on Syfy. Here’s a sneak peek.
