[Warning: Episode spoilers in preview, photos, and video.]

You’re going to have to excuse me while I nerd out a little bit. I’m always intrigued that actors can work on projects several months apart and then they all hit TV at the same time. Keenan Tracey (who’s now working as much as his dad, my Ian Tracey, hence the nerd out, and was just nominated for his first Leo Award), has been all over TV this spring (Bates Motel and When Calls the Heart), and in the last month, he recurred on The 100 and appeared on last week’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered. Tonight, he’s on Motive, which was actually shot first last fall.

In “Dead End,” he stars opposite his real-life sweetheart, AJ Michalka, in an episode about the death of a young woman whose posthumous secrets blow apart her boyfriend’s family. It’s a solid, but inevitably sad, hour about a seemingly perfect life gone wrong, with strong performances across the board. Also appearing are Chad Willett (nerd out reason #2), Alexia Fast (Supernatural and The Secret Circle), and Jennifer Copping (When Calls the Heart).

Here’s the official logline: Detectives Flynn and Vega must solve a case involving the death of a promising high school senior. But Angie takes an aggressive approach to the case that Vega doesn’t agree with. Meanwhile, Detective Lucas and Officer Sung’s relationship starts to get personal.
