[Warning: General spoilers in photos, video, and preview.]

Emily Osment (from the upcoming Young & Hungry), Mutant X‘s Victoria Pratt, and One Tree Hill‘s Paul Johansson come to Lifetime this weekend in A Daughter’s Nightmare, a cheesy-good suspense yarn about a college student who’s alarmed–with good reason (of course)–by her recently-widowed mom’s friendship with a classmate’s stepdad.

Here’s the formal logline: Soon after her father’s death, college freshman Ariel (Osment) learns her mother, Dana (Pratt), has met Adam (Johansson), a seemingly well-meaning and charming man, at a grief support group. He claims to be a nurse, but the longer he hangs around, the sicker and more isolated Dana becomes, even from Ariel. When Dana suddenly goes missing, it’s up to Ariel to discover the terrible truth of Adam’s past before it is too late.

It’s a fairly predictable woman-in-peril story with both a supporting character and pet (boo!) bulls-eyed early on, but this time, the daughter puts the pieces together to save her mom and (eventually) kicks ass (yay!). I’m an old-school fan of Pratt and Johansson and will watch them in anything, plus this was shot in Vancouver, so you know I was all in when this popped up on Lifetime’s schedule.

Osment is very good in the lead role, and she and Pratt have a nice chemistry in their scenes together. It’s fun to see Johansson revisit his Bad Dad Dan OTH roots, too. Home Improvement‘s Richard Karn pops up as Ariel’s uncle (so nice to see him!) and Faking It‘s Gregg Sulkin is solid as Adam’s stepson, Ben, who has his own demons.
