Last week’s episode ended with murder suspect, Randall Tier (Mark O’Brien), being killed by Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) as he crashed through Will’s living room window.  Of course, Dr. Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) didn’t seem too surprised to see Will and the very dead Tier show up on his doorstep, especially given the fact that Hannibal sent Tier himself to murder Will.  A good part of tonight’s episode explores the aftermath of Will’s decision to kill, leading Dr. Lecter to believe that he actually enjoyed beating the life out of Tier.  This little bromance between Will and Hannibal is quite unsettling to say the least, and I’m still not entirely sure if Will is being truthful, or he’s just trying to get into Dr. Lecter’s head by pretending to be the murderous monster that Hannibal so wishes he would become.

We also finally get to meet the infamous sadist and pedophile brother of Margot Verger, Mason (Michael Pitt).  If you are familiar with the Thomas Harris novels or any of the Hannibal Lecter movies, you’ll know that Dr. Lecter doesn’t care too much for Mason’s sick practice of exploiting children and in the end, leaves Mason horribly disfigured thus making the man on the outside match the monster that had been hiding inside.  We’re not sure yet how the Mason Verger storyline will play out in the television series, but there have been strong hints that it may stay true to the movies, or at least pretty close.  Movie Verger liked to rape and torture young children and use their tears as a sick additive to his martinis.  So, does TV Verger.  Movie Verger became obsessed with pigs who were trained to eat human flesh, which he tried (and failed) to use to kill Dr. Lecter.  We’ll find out in tonight’s episode that TV Verger does the same thing.  However, after Bryan Fuller’s deviation from the books and films with the death of Dr. Chilton, I wouldn’t be totally surprised if Fuller decided to spin the Mason Verger in a completely different direction.

Episode 2.10 of Hannibal is titled “Naka-choko” and airs tonight at 10/9c on NBC.
