Is everyone still reeling from last week’s shocker?  It’s been almost a week, and I’m still as bummed out as I was last Friday.  Dang you, Bryan Fuller! You miraculously make everyone care about the douche Dr. Chilton (Raul Esparza), and then, you rip our hearts out by killing him.  Sigh.

Oh, well.  Life goes on for this Fannibal, and this week with “Su-zakana”, we begin our journey on a brand new arc.  We, of course, have our gruesome murder-of-the-week, and this time it’s a truck driver who looks as if he had been ripped apart by two animals — well, torn to shreds by two animals, or two very savage human beings, which we know is the mainstay on a television show like Hannibal.

However, we are also introduced to a new character, Margot Verger (Katherine Isabelle).  Since the beginning of Season 2, we have known that the series is finally going to delve into the very creepy storyline of Mason Verger.  If you are familiar with the Hannibal films, you will recall that Mason Verger was the main antagonist in the 2001 movie Hannibal, the sequel to Silence of the Lambs.  Verger is a sadist and a pedophile, who Dr. Lecter,  in his own weird self-righteous way, “punishes” by getting him high on drugs and convincing him to tear the majority of the flesh from his face leaving him severely disfigured.  Of course, all of this comes much later, and in tonight’s episode, we are only introduced to Margot Verger, Mason’s very disturbed younger sister, as she is one of Dr. Lecter’s new patients.

In the preview, we also see Will (Hugh Dancy) just an ass hair’s away of convincing Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) that Dr. Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) is the real Chesepeake Ripper.  None of us have forgotten that epic fight scene in the opening of the season premiere, and with us now in the second half of season two, Jack’s major revelation that Hannibal is the real monster can’t be too far off.

Hannibal airs on Fridays at 10/9c on NBC.  Check out our review of last week’s spectacular episode “Yakimono” here.
