[Warning: General spoilers in the images, video, and preview].

Tonight’s first season finale of When Calls the Heart (already!) wraps up some arcs and opens doors for others in anticipation of a second season renewal (which we’ll hopefully hear about soon). If you’re a fan of the show, watching it live will be a big help in that direction.

“Prelude to a Kiss” makes no secret of the biggest goal of the night–an 11-episode run up to Elizabeth and Jack finally putting their feelings and intentions for each other on the table. That’s complicated by last week’s arrival of Jack’s former fiancée, Rosemary (Pascale Hutton), who’s returned with her heart set on picking that relationship back up. Don’t count Elizabeth out just yet, though. Even though she received a very enticing teaching offer, she has other reasons to stay put, especially when, thanks to Rosemary’s attempt to torpedo things, everybody finds out she could be leaving.

Over at the cafe, Abigail is still caught up in her case against Gowen. Bill (Jack Wagner) gets a little too close to the truth, and calls in a judge (guest star James Brolin) to help speed things up. That’s needed sooner than later when Gowen makes good on his threat to Abigail in a town meeting, and Abigail finds out who her friends are. Abigail also finds out something she didn’t know about Bill.

We revisit Adam Miller, who has found his calling as a builder, and makes a proposal to the town to help them get back on track, too. He gets funding from a surprising source when the town doesn’t want to get further in debt with Gowen.

And that’s all I’m sharing. It’s a very satisfying finale, and I think the fans who have pined with Jack and Elizabeth all season will be very happy when the episode closes. Everything’s not in a neat bow, but the couple is on their surest footing so far, despite a last-minute piece of news.

I really hope we see these characters come back for a second season. Here’s a sneak peek of “Prelude to a Kiss,” which airs tonight at 9/8c on Hallmark Channel.
